Abnormal vaginal bleeding

Abnormal vaginal bleeding, or abnormal uterine bleeding can have many causes. We usually divide them into structural and non-structural causes.

Structural causes

Polyp - outpouching of tissue within uterus or within cervical canal

Adenomyosis- inner glands grow within muscle layer of the uterus

Leiomyoma- muscle layer grows into muscle fibroid masses

Malignancy- cancer

Non-structural causes

Coagulopathy- bleeding disorder

Ovulatory- not ovulating regularly

Endometrial- inner part of uterus is unstable

Idiopathic- issues with thyroid or other hormones

Not otherwise specified

Most common cause of abnormal uterine bleeding is ovulatory. Depending on the cause, the treatment changes. Come talk to me about it.
